1. Ensuring that the provisions of Occupational Health and Safety Act and COIDA, Health Act and other legislations affecting health and safety of employees by;

a) Conducting health risk assessment and medical surveillance.

b) Overseeing that survey are designed to assess the size and nature of the problem to prevent ill health and incident

c)Assessing the needs for specialized services e.g. Hygienist and Occupation therapist.

 

2.Prevent accidents and ill health arising from the workplace by;

a) Assessing and identifying hazards in the workplace which are likely to affect health and safety and general well-being.

b) Early detection from the norm.

c)Advising on control measures.

 

3.Promote, maintain and restore health and safety of the employees

a) Advising on fitness for work.

b) Overseeing the settlement of the sick and injured employees.

c) Providing information, advice, counselling and appropriate referrals.

 

4.Investigate occurrences and trends in the workplace

a) Maintain records of occupational disease and injuries and analyse the trends.

b) Assist with the investigation and analysis of accidents.

c)Represent occupational health section in meeting with Department of Labor.

 

 

 

5.Provide clinical expert, medical advice on occupational health matters

a) Provide advice on health matters following a medical examination and liaison with employer’s health care provider.

b) Discuss with management in the planning stages of new projects prior to the introduction of new chemicals.

 

6.Provide specialist consultant functions in Occupational Health operational issues by

a) Acting as co-opted member of Health and Safety committee council.

b) Executing an advisory role in all health and safety committees.

 

7.Manage incapacity management program conducted by the Occupational Health Section by

a) Reviewing the disability management guidelines.

b) Issuing final approval of special leave (including sick leave, injury on duty and disabling occupational disease).

 

8.Consult and communicate with various stakeholders by

a) Providing written reports to management on matter requiring urgent attention concerning health and hygiene.

 

9.Provide medical and holistic management of accidents and illness at work.
